Physics PEr:3/4 Dec. 11, 2009

Objective:

SWBAT solve for speed, velocity, and acceleration.

Agenda:
1. Warm Up
2. Ms.Cho's Letter to you:)
3. Collect Homework packets
4. Quiz
5.Free Fall
- Notes
- Worksheet
6. City Project

Homework:
- Review questions: Motions + Notes.
- Saturday Extra Credit?

Summary:
When we took our seats in Ms.Cho's, we were surprised to see that Ms.Cho was sick :(.
We then did our warm up, and corrected our warmup/homework and the people who got
chosen to go on the board, went and did their problems. We then took the quiz, which was
based on velocity, distance, speed, and more. We were off to lunch :) After lunch we took
our seats again. We then had to read this packet, and highlight three fact in each section.
Then Alma (our substitute) passed out worksheets for us to work on, if we didn't finish
it was left for us to do as homework. Then we worked on our city project.

Example:
A apple has a rest position on the tree, and gains speed as it falls.
Gravity causes the apple to accelerate downward once it begins falling.

Huanities Per: 1/2 Friday Dec.11, 2009

Objective:
SWBAT: analyze and understand events at end of Bluest Eye.
SWBAT: edit and revise Ad analysis essay.

Agenda:
1: Final Bluest Eye test
2: Blog Diary

Homework:
-Finalize Ad essay
-Work on counter Ad (E.C)

Once we got into Ms. Matthews class we took our Bluest Eye test.
The test covered some of the questions from the story, and we had
to write a five paragraph essay on the theme of the book and how
Pecola's situation related to the media and racism that we have today.
While we were taking our test, Ms. Matthews was calling up student
to check there notebooks, discuss there grades, and see where you are
on your Ad essay. Once we were done with the test, some of us could
of continued using the laptops to work on our Ad essay. Then Ms. Montoya
passed out Cupcakes for the winning team, and Carlos passed out cookies
for the losing team. Then sadly we had to say our goodbyes to Ms. Montoya
and we were then off to Ms. Cho's classroom.

Physics; Period three & four.

Objective:
SWBAT solve for speed/velocity and acceleration.

Agenda:
1. Warm Up/Homework Check
2. Blog
3. Homework
     -speed and velocity worksheet
     -Assemble homework packet
4.City
      -Extra Credit Form
      -Printer
      -Conference

Homework:
Speed and Experiment Worksheet.

Summary:
In the begining of the class, Ms.Cho came around and checked our homework while we were doing the 3 warm up problems. After correcting the warm ups, Ms.Cho handed out a page of notes that also had homework on the back. While we were reading the notes, Steve walked in to our room, and we did our secret code (CA CAW!) and I thought he left and the coast was clear, but it turns out he was still there the whole time...(i think he was suspicious).  The homework  was to solve problems using formulas like S=D/T and D=S/T. We then did some problems on the board, and Ms.Cho picked people who she thought didn't understand it. When we were done we went into our city project for the rest of the period. I learned that Speed is like velocity, except velocity has direction. One good way to remember Speed, Distance and Time, for our quiz is STD (s= speed, t= time, d= distance).

Example:
A bike moves 50m in 5 Sec. Calculate the speed of the bike.

Step 1. Variables.
S= 50m. D=? T=5 sec

Step 2. Formula.
S= D/T

Step 3. Solve for Unknown Variable.
SxT=D

Step 4. Plug in Number.

50x5=S
Step 5. Solve
D=250m/s

HOMEWORK:
  • Velocity and Displacement worksheet
  • Work on buildings
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
  • Quiz on physics concept
SUMMARY:
               Today we walked into Ms.Cho's class and our secretaries got our worksheets from the out box. We did quiz corrections instead of a warm-up. Ms.Cho walked around and check our homework from the night before. After that Ms.Cho passed out a worksheet where we would take notes. We started taking notes on Displacement and Velocity. We defined words like Displacement-an objects change in position , Distance Traveled-total distance an object moves, and Velocity-speed with direction. We then went to lunch. When we came back from lunch we continued the notes. We talked about the difference of velocity and speed which is that velocity includes direction speed does not.We also worked on solving some problems and finding the displacement. When we finished taking notes we worked on finishing buildings and putting our city together until the end of class.

EXAMPLE:
1. During a race on level ground, Andra runs with an average velocity of 6.02m/s to the east. What is Andra's displacement after 137 seconds?
V= 6.02m/s
^t=137s
^x=?

^x= V * ^t
824.74= 6.02 * 137

SUMMARY:
                  Today in Mrs.Matthews class we picked up some handouts as we were walking in. One of those papers was about Jim Crow. His real name was Dartmouth "Daddy" Rice. He was a white man who painted himself black and "appeared on stage as 'Jim Crow'-- an  exaggerated, highly stereotypical black character". He had a song and dance routine and it was extremely successful. When we were done reading this Cami and Jackie read their blog entries. When they finished we were told we were going to have a Socratic seminar. We went over the rules then Ms.Montoya passed out the cards that would put us in our groups for the Socratic seminar. The black group went today and they discussed what we have been reading for BE, Jim Crow,and what affects the media has on people. As we did this Ms.Matthews walked around to check our dialectical journals for Ch.4 in BE. When the Socratic seminar was over we read and analyzed a sample ad essay about YMI jeans. We talked about what was good in the essay like all the details of the ad and what was not so good like her organization. When we were done with that we got a peer editing sheet . Some people were ready to start peer editing and others started revising. Then we left for Ms.Cho's class.

Objective:
SWBAT identify symbols for Bluest Eye.
SWBAT understand characteristics of strung vs. weak supporting paragraphs in an essay.

Agenda:
1. Symbols Chart
2. Blog
3. Bluest Eye reading Ch. 1 and Study Questions- Number Chapters

When we walked into Ms. Matthews class we had to pick up some hand outs. We then took our seats and started copying down the symbols chart that was on the board. We then went over how and why the Mary Jane candies, the Shirley Temple cup, and the torn couch were symbols in the book. We then had to come up with two of our own symbols and we had to explain them. We moved on to the blog and I was obviously chosen to do it tonight (after weeks of avoiding it). We started to read Bluest Eye and answer the study questions. We also numbered the chapters in the spring section. Ms. Matthews told us to put all of our Bluest Eye stuff away and to get out our ads. We looked at some sample ad analysis essays and looked at the structure of the paragraphs. After that we did a scavenger hunt with our partners to look at some ads and put them into categories of which persuasive techniques were used in the ads. some of the persuasive techniques were dehumanized: dismembered, dehumanized: objectified, and celebrity. We then packed up and went to Ms. Cho's class.
