While taking this quiz Ms. Matthews came around checking our previous homework which was to finish chapters 24 & 25 of Cannery Row. Karely then shared the blog she created for the previous day. After this Carlos just had to jinx my name, then I got picked for the blog entry. Ms.Matthews then passed out a worksheet called " Cannery Row Figurative Language" where we had to use the Say/Mean/Matter chart to understand different passages from chapters 24 and 25 of Cannery Row. We then went over the worksheet as a class. The last thing we did in class was work on our city project power point presentations which we would be presenting on Friday. We then cleaned our tables up, put the laptops away, and headed to our next class.

Summary:

We came into Ms.Cho's class knowing we had to do our warm ups like every other day on what we were learning. While working on our warm-ups Ms.Cho came around checking our One Step Equations with Integers Worksheet which was for homework. After going over the warm-up questions we then checked our homework and answered questions we did not understand.
After going over our homework Karely then read the previous blog entry. After this we took notes on two-step equations. By the end of our notes we knew how to identify and isolate a variable in an equation, and how to solve two-step equations. After coming in from lunch we all got in our "city groups" and worked on our city project. Ms.Cho had us draw on our zone papers which we then had to add buildings to. Then it was off to fifth period.

example:

10= 4m + 2
-2            - 2
8 = 4m
4     4

    Math/Physics 10/26

    Objective
SWBAT simplify expressions and solve equations.

    Agenda
    1. Warm up/HW check/Ms.cho's Diary.
    2. Homework Corrections.
    3. Lesson: Solving Equations-worksheet.
    4. City Project+Timeline of Due Dates.
    Homework
    1. Distribute Property/Combining like terms.
    2. Progress Reports signed+late assignments.
    Summary

It was another day in Ms.Cho's class when we came in and did our warm up which was to make corrections for our quiz. While that was happening i was talking of course as always but Ms.Cho was going by checking our homework. Then, we did are notes and  our  notes was about "inverse operations".
Here are some exaples of how an Inverse Equation looks like:

    Ex#1) X+19=23  Ex#2) P x 9=72   Ex#3) y-12= -45
    operation: +           operation: x            operation: -
    inverse: -                inverse: /                inverse: +

We also practiced some example problems that Ms.Cho made us do here are a few examples we did:

    Ex#1) addition: d+12= 45                 Ex#2) subtraction: F-23=65
                               -12 -12                                                +23 +23
                         ----------------                                    ------------------
                                 d = 33                                                  F = 88

Lastly, for the remaining of the period we had to work on
our"City Proposal and Zoning Map"which was due on Friday.
Each group needs to turn in the zoning map on a large piece
of newsprint paper. Also, each group needs to turn in our own
city report calculations as a packet with the cover sheet (answers)
along with our work on lined paper. When it was time to leave we
cleaned up,sat down and waited for Ms.Cho to dismiss us.

    Math/Physics 10/23

    Objective
SWBAT identify angle properties in order to solve for missing angles.
SWBAT use the distributive property and combine like terms.

    Agenda
    1.  Warm-up/HW check
    2.  Homework Corrections
    3.  Quiz on Angles
    4.  Progress Report & Reflection
    5.  City Project (zoning plans)
    6.  Start Homework

    Homework
    • Distributive Property/ Combining Like Terms Worksheet
    • Get Progress Reports Signed & Work on Late Assignments
    Class Summary

Right before the quiz today, we reviewed the different angle properties that we needed to know in order to solve for missing angles.  This includes:
    • corresponding angles
    • opposite angles
    • alternate interior angles
    • supplementary angles
    • complementary angles
    • interior angles
    • exterior angles
These angle properties help us determine which angles are congruent, or the same.  Additionally, we reviewed how to find the sum of all the interior angles by using the formula 180(n-2) where n=number of sides.  If we wanted to find the measure of each interior angle, we just need to divide the sum of all the interior angles by the number of angles there are.  Finding the sum of all the exterior angles is easy.  It's just 360 degrees!  So if we wanted find each exterior angle, we can just divide 360 by the number of angles.

We started thinking about the city zoning maps.  We have to make sure that we have everything listed on the handout on our zoning maps.  This includes:
    • geography
    • zones
    • buildings
    • transportation corridors
We will have all next week to submit this Zoning Map as a group, along with individual calculations of our zoning maps.  The due date is Friday, October 30th.

    Humanities 10/23

    Objectives:

    • Reflect on quarter grade report and develop a specific, measurable, attainable goals for quarter 2.
    • Analyze character and theme development in Cannery Row
    • Critique strengths and weaknesses of group city drafts.

    Agenda:
    1. Quarter Grade Reflection
    2. Cannery Row Discussion
    3. Cannery Row Character Analysis Group Chart Assignment
    4. City Draft Class Critique
    Homework:
    1. Complete Quarter Grade Reflection and return with parent signature on Monday
    2. Read chapters 19-20 of Cannery Row and answer Study Questions
    3. Extra Credit- Attend the Vista Mar College Fair on Sunday and complete the College Fair extra credit form
    Class Summary:

We began class today with an individual reflection on our quarter grade report,  our areas of strength and weakness, our thoughts about Da Vinci Design High School thus far and set a realistic, attainable and measurable quarter 2 goal.  We will be sharing our quarter grade report, the reflection sheet and our quarter 2 goal with our parents and need to return this on Monday with our parent/guardian's signature.  After the grade reflection, we discussed last night's Cannery Row assignment.   We reflected on Doc's character and determined that, while he was previously depicted  as a very generous and kind man, he has some quirky habits and a tendency to lie in order to make people happy.  We had a short debate about lying and whether or not lies can sometimes be good or harmless.  We realized that Doc reflects two main themes in the text- "Life is a balance between good and evil forces, chaos and order, and no one is exempt from either" and "Things and people are not always what they seem."  We also discussed the fact that Doc was inspired by one of John Steinbeck's close friends, a man named Ed Ricketts.  A memorial for Ed Rickets is depicted in the image above. After our Cannery Row discussion, we worked in our groups to develop character posters for different characters in the novel.  We spent the last part of class working on our city plans.  After reviewing the "wants" and "don't wants" of presentations, four groups presented their three dimensional city designs created in Ms. Cho's class and we engaged in class critique highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each.  Finally, we returned to our city plan proposal in our city groups.
